E-commerce giant, Amazon Inc, is continuing its expansion of operations in Virginia via opening a new fulfillment center in Prince George County, VA. Amazon is leasing a Virginia warehouse that was once operated by Ace Hardware.
The 798,786-square-foot warehouse is located in the SouthPoint Business Park, by the intersection of I-295 and U.S. 460 with I-95 nearby. It is one of the largest vacant distribution sites on the East Coast, and it was sold for $21.72 million in July to Ashley Capital LLC, one of the nation’s largest privately held real estate investment companies.
“Ashley Capital acquired this industrial, value-add property with the help of the brokers with CBRE, Colliers, and Cushman & Wakefield |Thalhimer. We completed an extensive renovation program with the vision to offer an affordable alternative to higher-priced regional properties.
Since acquiring Bridgeway Business Center in Norfolk, Virginia, we have become comfortable with the region and look forward to continuing to contribute to the thriving Virginia economy.”
– Tim Schneider, VP of Ashley Capital
The new Amazon fulfillment center is set to open jobs for 150 people, which will add to the company’s current workforce of more than 10,000 full-time employees in Virginia.
